Thinking about hiring an SEO specialist but not sure what the ROI is going to be? Have you heard about the potential of SEO but you’re not sure where to start or if an SEO specialist can really help you? Here are 10 real-world examples of how an SEO specialist can 10x your business…
Okay, let’s break this down from the beginning.
This is the process of finding the exact terms and phrases your target market is searching for, knowing how much traffic each term is worth, and knowing how difficult each term is to rank for (among other things).
The reason you want to know all this is so you can optimize your site’s pages and articles (blog posts or “content”) to rank on page one for these terms and get showered with tons of traffic from Google, Bing, Yahoo, and others.
The only problem? This process requires loads of time (especially if you’re not an expert), expensive keyword research software, and a significant amount of training (which is ongoing because Google’s always changing its algorithm).
Thankfully, you don’t have to mess with any of that. All you have to do to 10x your business with SEO is hire a good SEO specialist and follow their instructions.
I don’t want you to just take my word for it, though. I want to tell you 10 specific no-b.s. ways growth is going to happen when you invest in SEO and give you some real-world examples to make sure it really sinks in.
Cool? Let’s talk #winning…
1. You’ll earn steady traffic and list growth by targeting the relevant phrases your SEO specialist sends you.
Gotta start with the obvious one, right? The entire point of keyword research and SEO – and hiring an SEO specialist – is to rank on Page 1 of the SERPs (search engine results pages) for relevant keywords.
Before you become an epic content creator, you have to know exactly what your target market is searching for on search engines because that will determine your topic as well as the structure of your content.
How do you know what they’re looking for? Keyword research.
And I’m not talking about knowing what they want in general (you already have most of that information in your head), I’m talking about what they want specifically.
The vast majority of bloggers and content marketers don’t do this keyword research step. That’s why 95% of content on the internet doesn’t rank for anything relevant.
By doing the proper research, you’ll make sure that every piece of content you publish has a strong chance of ranking.
Here’s a real-world example of a client who wrote a great article on “how to break your soda habit.” The only problem is that nobody searches for that phrase…
But lots of people do search for “how to stop drinking soda” and “soda addiction,” so I had them completely rework their article to target those phrases.
That article received zero traffic for years (published back in 2014) until I came along and fixed the targeting. Now, that same article is driving tons of high quality traffic to their site (around 500 unique visitors every single week).
Most articles are just like this – high quality content that’s targeting irrelevant terms. All you have to do is find the right terms, re-optimize the content, and you win. That’s exactly what an SEO specialist will do for you.
2. An SEO specialist will uncover hidden traffic opportunities you never would have thought of or capitalized on.
There are amazing keyword opportunities that you would never think of in a million years through brainstorming, that a good SEO specialist can uncover in a matter of hours.
If that’s not enticing enough, the story gets even better. If your competitors aren’t doing high-level keyword research, they’ll never know about these hidden gems either and they’ll never know you’re using these hidden gems to drive tons of traffic, leads, and sales.
Let me give you a real-world example…
I have a client that’s targeting overwhelmed moms. I’ve found lots of obvious ideas like “meal planning template” – a perfect way for moms to get more organized with planning family meals and thus reduce overwhelm.
That’s still not super obvious, but it’s not super hidden, either. It’s something you would uncover through simple conversations with your target market (at some point, moms would start saying, “I’m overwhelmed with meal planning” and then you’d be able to come up with the idea).
What about this other opportunity I found, though…
It turns out there’s a lot of people – many of them moms since women still tend to be the primary grocery shoppers – wondering if a Costco membership is worth it.
Since most moms struggle with overwhelm – since being a parent is overwhelming in general – there’s a good chance that my client will be able to siphon off a percentage of those overwhelmed moms once they arrive on the site through this article.
This isn’t just an example of finding keyword opportunities that aren’t obvious, it’s an example of how an SEO specialist can show you how to attract your target market even when they aren’t directly searching for things related to what you offer.
If my client were only going to target keywords related to overwhelm and anxiety and such, she’d be hard pressed to grow quickly. By thinking outside the box and figuring out where her target market hangs out, what other related things they search for, etc. we can speed up her traffic and list growth significantly.
3. An SEO specialist can show you how to quickly close the gap between your business and high-level competitors with relatively little expense.
One of the realities about SEO is that it’s a long-term play. There are very few overnight wins in SEO.
Do you see this as a bad thing? A downside to SEO? Well, you shouldn’t.
The fact that it’s a long-term play means a lot of businesses and websites are going to pass on it (a huge mistake) in favor of just paying for traffic outright. The larger the company, the more this is likely to be the case because they have the deep pockets necessary to just pay for clicks.
Since they’re passing on SEO as a strategy, they’re not going to realize that they’re often paying through the teeth for keywords they could easily rank for organically.
An SEO specialist is going to quickly find these arbitrage opportunities for you, just like I did for the following client…
This is a perfect example of an important keyword (that I can’t reveal since these opportunities are extremely valuable) that the big players in this particular niche are paying $30 per click for that my client can easily rank for organically to bring in close to 2000 unique visitors a month.
If my client were to forego my services and join them in paying for clicks, he’d need to spend $54,000/mo to drive 1800 unique visitors.
That’s madness. My client is going to win through guerilla warfare – teaming up with an SEO specialist like myself to infiltrate the SERPs and steal loads of traffic out from under the noses of corporate ignoramuses.
4. An SEO specialist can alert you to new product ideas and target market insights revealed through the keyword research process.
SEO isn’t just about identifying keywords to target with your pages and content marketing efforts, it’s about understanding your market better as well.
There are a lot of reasons you need to understand your market in order to build a successful business, but one of the big ones is product creation.
Capitalizing on trends is extremely profitable. If you don’t believe me, look at the bank a bunch of people made on fidget spinners. That’s something a lot of SEO specialists probably saw coming and advised their clients on.
That’s not the example I want to use though because I’m not interested in fads and neither are my clients. I’m interested in sustainable trends and ideas.
Take a supplement client for example. Through keyword research we can identify a search term that has obvious connection to potential product development and market insight…
A lot of bloating issues can be resolved with probiotics and dietary changes. If my supplement client didn’t already have a probiotic for sale, I would advise them to create one and we could go after this term with it.
Or, if they already have a probiotic but they’re not using this market insight (12k searches/mo from people looking for bloating resolution), then we would shift the marketing to capitalize on this.
By looking at the search trend over time, we can see that this opportunity isn’t going to go away any time soon. In fact, it’s been steadily rising over the last 5 years which means the problem is likely getting worse for people…
Imagine being a supplement company with a supplement that solves bloating and being told that you can easily drive 5200 bloated people every month to an article that lists your supplement as the #1 recommended solution.
It doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to understand the immense value in that.
5. You’ll get your products and services in front of the right people at the right time.
SEO specialists worth their weight in gold understand something called “commercial intent.”
In layman’s terms, commercial intent measures how likely someone is to buy something (and how soon they’re likely to buy it) based on the phrases they use during their search.
For shits and giggles, I chose a random industry to provide examples for and literally came across what amounts to a lead and sales funnel through keywords that display various search intent…
Let’s pretend you’re an Alaskan cruise line and you hire me to do keyword research. Here’s a good example of the types of opportunities I might present to you…
“Best cruise destinations” doesn’t display much commercial intent at all. It displays research intent – the searcher is interested in going on a cruise, but doesn’t know where they want to go yet so they’re researching destinations.
If you own an Alaskan cruise line, you’re not going to sell this person an Alaskan cruise until they decide that Alaska is a great cruise destination.
Well guess what? If you rank for “best cruise destinations” you get to make your case that Alaska is, in fact, the best cruise destination. And while you make that case, you get to build your email list full of people who are interested in cruises, even if they decide they’re not ready to go to Alaska quite yet.
Next, you add an article that matches this phrase…
Now we’re definitely climbing the value ladder when it comes to commercial intent. This searcher has likely decided on their cruise destination and now they’re in the process of choosing the best cruise line that goes to Alaska.
Well guess what? If you rank for “best Alaska cruise,” you get to make the case for why your cruise line is the best and earn the business of thousands of people a month.
But we’re not done yet. This still isn’t the highest level of commercial intent. Someone could be searching for best Alaska cruise even if they’re not yet ready to buy. We still need a way to attract people that literally have their wallet out.
That’s when we create a page that goes after this phrase…
If someone is looking for deals, it’s typically because they have their wallet out ready to buy. That’s a fantastic keyword to rank for.
By understanding commercial intent, an SEO specialist can make sure that you’re attracting and engaging people at all different stages of the buying process, from the research phase to the “take my money” phase.
That’s undeniably invaluable.
6. The traffic and authority you build will make you a hot commodity for networking and joint venture opportunities.
One of the fastest ways to scale your business and make money online is to partner with other players in your industry or in tangentially related niches.
Basically, you leverage each other’s audiences and authority to help each other grow.
Now, let’s say two different people approach you with a joint venture offer. Being the savvy business owner you are, you’re going to see what these people can do for you, right? You’re probably going to want to check a 3rd party source to figure out how valuable each person is to you.
Let’s say you’re in the relationships niche. Which of these sites, also in your niche, do you choose?
This site gets less than 1000 visits a month from organic traffic and has 207 other websites linking to it for an organic traffic value of $600/mo.
This site gets close to 70k visits a month and has 1350 websites linking to it for an organic traffic value of $46k/mo.
I know which one I’d choose.
And that’s the point – raking in tons of valuable organic traffic makes you a value person to network with and partner with.
If you want the best opportunities, bring something to the table other influencers can’t ignore.
7. The time, money, and effort an SEO specialist will save you can be put into other profitable areas.
You can do keyword research and SEO on your own. All you have to do is spend months and years studying SEO and content marketing, pay for expensive keyword research software, and then spend countless hours hunting down the best opportunities.
OR, you can hire an SEO specialist or keyword research service to save all that time and energy so that it can be directed into other profitable areas of your business.
And let’s not forget that it’s not just about saving time and effort, it’s about saving money as well. Keyword Cheetah has keyword research packages that cost less than the research software itself. That creates a direct savings over the DIY avenue.
What about all that valuable traffic that you won’t have to pay for clicks for? That’s a direct savings as well.
Let’s say you had a budget of $5000/mo to pay for clicks through Google Adwords, but you didn’t have to spend anything because you were able to rank organically for all those keywords. You can take that $5000 and put it into some other marketing channel. Or product development. Or your team.
And we still haven’t calculated the immense opportunity potential and profit potential that an SEO specialist brings to the table.
It should be clear at this point that *not* hiring an SEO specialist is costing you dearly.
8. An SEO specialist can show you which keywords to target with paid ads so you spend less than your competitors and get better results.
In an article about Brian Dean and Backlinko, I did a breakdown on two related keywords and the very real difference in traffic and traffic value between the two.
Both keywords meant relatively the same thing in terms of commercial intent, but one was much more valuable than the other in terms of cost per click via PPC advertising.
Those keywords were “list building” and “how to build an email list.”
If you were to bid on “list building,” you’d pay roughly $4 per click…
But the similar term, “how to build an email list” would cost around $12 per click…
As you can see, similar terms can vary wildly in PPC cost.
Of course, there’s a lot more that goes into determining which keywords are best to bid on, but I just wanted to make that point. A lot of people who pay for clicks never consider hiring an SEO specialist to help them with their PPC targeting strategy.
That’s a big mistake. Getting an SEO specialist to map out your PPC campaign can save you tons of money every single month.
9. An SEO specialist will increase your brand’s visibility, which is like rocket fuel for word of mouth marketing.
Does branding in the online world matter?
According to Neil Patel, it’s one of the most important things for you to focus on.
Visibility is important. That’s why big companies spend serious dollars on marketing campaigns that do nothing but increase their visibility.
When your business is more visible, whether through radio ads, television ads, or SEO, more people see you and more people talk about you.
With regard to SEO specifically, more visibility almost always equals more authority. Why is this? Because searchers see Google as trustworthy.
Since 93% of online experiences begin with a search engine, SEO is critical to increasing visibility online.
Ranking in the top 3 for a lot of keywords isn’t easy and doesn’t happen overnight. Achieving that ranking let’s searchers know that you’re a serious resource that deserves trust and attention.
Plus, consider the networking opportunities and JV deals I mentioned earlier – that’s another example of how building an authority website can connect you with others who then contribute to increasing your visibility.
As your visibility goes up, your word of mouth skyrockets as well. All thanks to your SEO specialist.
10. The authority and rankings you achieve will turn your website into an undeniable asset worth tons of money.
Most businesses think about their website as a marketing channel, but rarely as a salable asset in itself.
That’s because a lot of business websites don’t have a ton of inherent value because they haven’t created an organic traffic powerhouse the way they should have.
The real salable value of websites becomes clear when you see someone sell a website that doesn’t have a strong business model behind it and it sells for tons of money.
Why would anyone pay big money for a website that doesn’t have a real business model behind it?
If a website gets a million unique visitors a month within a focused niche, it can easily be monetized and turned into a full-scale business in the right hands. When you have the traffic and attention, building the business is the easy part.
So, people pay for potential all the time. They pay for those eyeballs you’ve attracted. Of course, it’s best to have monetized that traffic, but it’s not necessary.
Bankaholic is a good example. It started as a finance blog and its traffic was monetized with affiliate marketing. It’s the simplest model there is. And then this happened…
Due to the blog ranking organically for several highly competitive credit card and financial keywords, Bankrate.com acquired Wu’s website for $15 million. – Entrepreneur
Well then 😉
If you’re ever going to sell your business, having a website that’s killing it in the SEO and organic search game makes your business much more valuable and interesting because people know that those rankings, that authority, and that traffic aren’t easy to come by and are extremely valuable.
Not hiring an SEO specialist is costing you…how much?
If you’re not convinced by this point that you need an SEO specialist, I don’t know what to tell you.
The question is, where do you find a good one? There’s a lot of scammers and amateurs out there.
Of course, you can hire me through my Keyword Cheetah service and agency. I think by now you realize that I know what I’m talking about.
But, there are many other great SEOs out there as well. There’s enough customers to go around, so the decision is up to you. I just wanted to make sure you understand the immense value an SEO specialist can bring to the table for your website and your business. Things like…
- Steady traffic and list growth.
- Uncovering hidden opportunities.
- Stealing traffic from big competitors who have deep pockets.
- Identifying new product ideas and valuable market insights and trends.
- Putting your products and services in front of the right people at the right time.
- Landing big networking and JV opportunities.
- Saving you tons of time, energy, and money.
- Targeting the right paid ads so you get the best results with the least ad spend.
- Increasing your brand’s visibility and skyrocketing your word of mouth.
- Turning your website into a valuable, salable asset.
